If you have watched any of my past reels on Instagram, you've probably seen the one where I bought a rabbit. I finally cooked it!
First we are going to prepare the rabbit.
Step 1
Cut the hind legs off, I did this by finding the joint between the leg and hip and cut it right there.
Step 2
Do the same thing as step 1 but with the front legs.
Step 3
Cut off the bony, almost meatless hip and rib section, leaving the two loin muscles and belly meat attached to it. Now we have 5 serving pieces: the loin muscles, the two hind legs and the two front legs.
Now it's time to start braising the rabbit.
Step 4
Heat a skillet over medium to high heat, while the skillet is warming up, get a bowl, and fill it with flour seasoned with salt and pepper.
Then bread each piece of rabbit.
Step 5
Pour at least a tablespoon of any oil into the skillet, add the rabbit pieces and cook till all sides are brown.
Add a 1/2 cup of water to the skillet and stir it to create a sort of broth.
Step 6
Put the rabbit and "broth" in a crock pot with one half of a chopped onion and a few cloves of sliced garlic. Season the food with salt and pepper, then add more water or broth till it covers the rabbit.
Step 7
If you want vegetables with the rabbit then put them in the crock pot or cook them separately and have them ready when the rabbit is done. I added baby carrots and chopped potatoes in the crock pot.
Step 8
Cook the rabbit for 2 1/2 to 3 hours on high, or cook for 4 to 5 hours on low. When done make sure it is fork tender, if not, then obviously cook it for maybe 15-30 minutes longer.
This is how my rabbit ended up!
This was my first time eating rabbit, but it for sure won't be the last!
Hopefully ya'll liked the recipe and enjoyed your rabbit!
